Director’s Message

The fall season is here and most of our classes are full. The children and staff are settling in nicely, adjusting to the new friends, routines and programs. I’m here daily from 6:30 am.-3:00pm or from 9 – 5:30pm, alternating every 2 weeks with Sue, our Assistant Director. This way there is always someone available to assist you and answer any questions or concerns you may have. I will be going on Vacation from Oct 9th, returning Nov 2nd. During my leave Sue will be here to keep things running smoothly. Amie has had her little girl and Stephanie has had her little boy, both momma’s and babies are doing great!

Staff and Programs

Recently we have hired some new casual staff, so you may see some new faces around the centre. Sheri Maidment, Jasmine Mundy and Tiffany Barker will be filling in on occasions for our permanent staff, and each of these ladies have shown a genuine interest in working with young children.

Bev Brown had to leave us earlier than planned for her maternity leave. We will be hiring a temporary full time replacement for her position of Support Worker in the near future. Sue Spencer has been hired as the Temporary Assistant Director. I will be training her over the next few weeks so she is fulfill the role of Director when required.

Please let your Child’s teachers know if you require Day Care on Thanksgiving Monday. We need to poll the parents to decide whether the Day Care will be open or closed. If we decide to close you will be reimbursed for the day on your monthly invoice. A decision will be made by Oct 5th.

Fundraising

The Walk-a-thon is this coming Sunday! Hope to see many of you there, supporting our day care! We will walk as a group to the Tregothic Railroad where we will enjoy the mini trains and a bar-b-que. Please bring your family and help support this family related fundraiser! Money raised will go towards our Infant Play yard.

Attached you will find tickets for our Fall Basket. Klowa has generously donated pumpkin/fall products from Scentcy and Steeped Tea. If each family could sell one sheet of tickets that would raise approx. $750.00, which would be great! More tickets are available at the centre. The draw will be held the day of the Regatta, as we will be setting up a table that day! The Dill family has donated a giant pumpkin and Michael will be rowing it on behalf of the Centre. Be on the look-out for more information once final plans are made.

Message from the Board!

As Summer is coming to a close and we are welcoming Autumn, the Board of the WDC continues to forge ahead with exciting plans for the Day Care Centre. We are getting quotes on an Accessible Lift/Elevator in order to make the upper level of the centre accessible to those with mobility challenges.

We are also finding ways to ensure the centre is being financially responsible. Application was sent to NS Power for consideration at a domestic rate as a not-for-profit organization and we just received word that we have been approved for this special rate.

Interviews have and are being held for new staff to replace those on maternity leave as well as replenishing our list of casual staff.

Our Bricks & Mortar committee will be looking for your assistance with a few small upcoming projects around the centre. Gravel will be being delivered and a couple of rakes (with people attached) would be more than welcome to help spread it in the driveway, the tenative date for this will be. A Fall Cleanup will be held before the snow flies to do a final cleanup of the grass, weeds, branches, etc. Please watch the bulletin boards in the foyer for signup sheets. Many hands make light work.

As always, if you have any concerns/comments for the board, please feel free to contact us. We would love to hear your ideas.

Until next newsletter,
