Director’s Message

While I am away, Sue Spencer is looking after the centre.  She will be working from 6:30 to 3:00 every day.  If you need to speak with someone after she’s left for the day,  Patty or Jessica in the infant room will try to assist you.

As the weather continues to get wet and cold, please remember to bring appropriate clothing including hats, mitts, warm coats, rain boots (for the water and mud) and many changes of clothes. We do go outside rain or shine so we need to ensure the children are appropriately dressed to explore.

I wish you all a safe and happy Halloween.

Heather Cochrane

Aviva fund

I am sure you have seen the notices posted regarding our submission to the Aviva fund.  If we can get enough votes we can advance to the final stage and have a chance to receive funds that would go towards much needed improvements to our play yard.  Please vote and share with your family and friends.

Staff and Programs

I am pleased to announce that we have recently hired Cassandra Temple as our Support Worker for the term position while Bev is on maternity leave.  Cassandra comes to us from Newfoundland and has lots of experience in working with children.

There are a group of staff participating in a professional development workshop called “Supporting Playful Learning “on November 7th, so hopefully they will return with some new and exciting materials we can use to enhance our programs.

Fundraising

The Walk-a-thon was a great success this year.  We had approximately 30 children and their families walk as a group to the Tregothic Railroad where we enjoyed the mini trains and a bar-b-que.  We have raised  $1308.00 to date, which has been used to build a couple of decks and ramp in the infant yard.  This will allow the children play space when the weather is damp and provide lots of opportunity for gross motor activities to aid in developing those tiny bodies. We are expecting another couple of deliveries of wood chips provided courtesy of Jim Galley over the next couple of weeks which will help reduce the mud experience for our infants and teachers.

We participated in the Pumpkin Regatta this year with Michael rowing a pumpkin and having a table at the waterfront. Michael did awesome for his first time, he might not have gotten first place but he didn’t sink. His time was 22 mins & 23 secs. We had two contests going on. Rachel Ng, one our parents, was the winner of the “Michael’s Finish Time Bingo”. She chose a time of 22 mins. for Michael’s finish time and wow that was a great pick! Thank you Rachel for donating your winnings back to the centre!! We also had the Scentsy and Steeped Tea basket and the winner of the basket was another parent, Sarah Casey. Congratulations to both our winners and thank you to everyone who helped in any way for this fundraiser . Our grand total for the weekend was $651.00.

We will be doing our annual  COOKIE DOUGH CAMPAIGN  again this year .We will be starting the sale on November 2nd and it will run until the 20th. All orders need to be submitted to the daycare by the 20th of November. Let’s get out there and sell some dough to make some dough for the daycare.
