Newsletter June 2017
It’s hard to believe summer is just around the corner, but here I am including all the information for June and the summer programs.
Just a reminder that the Annual General Meeting is scheduled to be held at the Day Care on Thursday, May 25th @ 6:30 pm. The current board is seeking new members, so if you are interested or may know of an individual who could be an asset to the centre, please let me know. We need at least 10 members to attend the AGM, so the AGM can
proceed. Everyone is welcome!
The graduation ceremony will be on Wed. June 21st at 7:00 pm for those children who will be attending Elementary school in the fall. We have 21 graduates this year. Parents and their families are welcome to attend the ceremony. Please have the graduates here by 6:45 pm. so the teachers have time to prep them for this exciting event. Doors will open at 6:30 pm. To assist with the celebration we are asking parents to bring fruit, veggies, sweets or sandwiches for a small reception following the ceremony. If you could let your child’s teacher know what you are able to contribute, it would be much appreciated!
Please inform us of your need for child care over the summer and in the fall. If your child will not be attending, I will need to know their last day of attendance for billing and registration purposes. All this should be done in writing so that no misunderstandings will occur.
We understand that most of the children will be taking some vacation time this summer. Please inform us of your summer vacation plans as it helps with summer schedules. Subsidized parents are allowed 15 vacation days per year
(April 1st 2017 to March 31st 2018) as long as you pay the parent portion of your fees.
There will be some room changes for staff beginning June 26th. Christine Smith will be returning off her maternity
leave on June 26th and will be returning to the Kinderschool/School Age 2 class. Lisa Croft-MacDonald (Infants)will be leaving us as she was covering a maternity leave and I know she will be missed by the staff and the children. We wish her well with her future position. Jessica Croft will be moving to Toddler 1 with Elissa Smardon. Lori Sparks (T2) will be moving to Infants with Patty, and Nadia Carrier (T1) will be moving to Toddler 2 with Sue.
We are excited to have received funding through the federal and provincial levels for 3 summer students. These
students will assist the teachers with the swimming programs and extra activities over the summer months.
Please provide your child with the appropriate clothing for the summer months. A hat and good footwear are necessary. We ask that your child does not wear flip flops, they provide little protection for busy feet. Also please provide swim suit, towel, and a couple of changes of clothes, as water activities are an essential part of outdoor play!
Starting the 1st week of July the swimming programs will commence. School age children will be attending public swim daily at the aquatic centre. Parents are required to provide a pool pass or money daily to cover the cost. You can check with the Recreation department or Town office as to the cost, I also have information regarding recreation grants that are available to qualifying families, please see me if you are interested.
Preschool Swim will start July 4th at the pool. We rent the pool daily from 1 to 130, but often share the space with other groups. This year the Toddler 2 group are going to participate going to the pool on a trial basis for the first couple of weeks. Depending on the number of children using the facility, supervision and the transitions to and from the pool, will help determine if they will be continuing over the summer. We will keep you posted.
Toddler 1 and Infants will have water activities, small pools & sprinklers in the yard!
You will notice an additional charge of $3.00 on your July/Aug/Sept. bills. This fee will allow the centre to purchase unscented sunscreen with proper SPF for all the children to use while attending for the summer and early fall seasons. We have found this to be cost effective for parents and more efficient for staff. If your child is allergic or highly sensitive to basic sunscreen, you will need to provide your child with their own brand. Let me know so I do not bill you for sunscreen.
The Day Care will be hosting a Dime and Silent Auction on July 30th at the Community Centre. Lori Sparks (T2) is organizing the event with the assistance of the fundraising committee and staff. More information will follow in the weeks ahead!
