Director’s Message:

It’s hard to believe we are talking about summer when we haven’t really had much of a spring yet, but here I am including all the information for June and the summer programs.

Just a reminder that the Annual General Meeting is scheduled to be held at the Day Care on Wednesday, May 25th @ 7:00 pm. The current board is seeking new members, so if you are interested or may know of an individual who could be an asset to the centre then please let me know. Everyone is welcome!

We are excited that the Minister of Education, Karen Casey will visiting our facility on Thurs. May 26th, along with Chuck Porter our MLA. Chuck arranged for her to come in and have a quick tour of our new centre.

Heather Cochrane

Christine Smith is leaving us to start her maternity leave, we wish her all the best as she waits for the arrival of her new baby. Jessica Croft (infant teacher) will be taking over her class. Jessica has been employed with the day care for 5 years and has lots experience working with preschoolers, the children know her and this will make the transition easier on them.

We are excited to have received funding on the federal and provincial levels, for 4 summer students through grants this year. These students will assist the teachers with the swimming programs and extra activities over the summer months.

Preschool Graduation

dino-gradThe graduation ceremony for PS-1 and PS-2 will be on Wed. June 22nd at 7:00 pm for those children who will be attending Elementary school in the fall. We have 27 graduates this year. Parents and their families are welcome to attend the ceremony. Please have the graduates here by 6:45 pm. so the teachers have time to prep them for the big event. Doors will open at 6:30 pm. To assist with the celebration we are asking parents to bring fruit, veggies, sweets or sandwiches for a small reception following the ceremony. If you could let your child’s teacher know what you are able to contribute, it would be much appreciated!

Summer/Fall Enrolment

Please inform us of your need for child care over the summer and fall. If you have not yet done so, please notify the office as soon as possible. If your child will not be attending this summer or in the fall, I will need to know the last day of attendance for billing and registration purposes. Please note that if you withdraw your child for the summer, and do not notify us that you would like to return in the fall, there is no guarantee there will be space available . All this should be done in writing so that no misunderstandings will occur. I will do my best to accommodate your needs.

Vacation Dates

We understand that most of the children will be taking some vacation time this summer. Please inform us of your summer vacation plans as it helps with summer schedules. Subsidized parents are allowed 15 vacation days per year (April 1st 2016 to March 31st 2017) as long as you pay the parent portion of your fees.

Summer Programming

Please provide your child with the appropriate clothing for the summer months. A hat and good footwear are needed. We ask that your child does not wear flip flops, they provide little protection for busy feet. Also please provide swim suit, towel, and a couple of changes of clothes, as water activities are an essential part of the daily program!

kids-swimmingStarting the 1st week of July the swimming programs will commence at the Aquatic Centre.

School age children will be attending public swim daily. Parents are required to provide a pool pass or money daily to cover the cost. You can check with the Recreation department or Town office as to the cost. If the children come to day care full time, it is best and usually cheaper to purchase a pass.

Preschool-1 & 2 will have their own pool time from 1:00 – 1:30. The cost of pool rental is divided up among all the participants, depending on the number of days they attend per week. This amount will be added to your July invoice for the summer.

Toddlers 1 and 2, & Infants will be have wading pools in the yards. These pools are disinfected daily to prevent the spread of bacteria.

You will notice an additional charge of $2-$4 on your July bill (depending on the cost of our bulk purchase of sunscreen). This fee will allow the centre to purchase unscented sunscreen with proper SPF for all the children to use while attending for the summer and early fall seasons. We have found this to be cost effective for parents and more efficient for staff. If your child is allergic or highly sensitive to basic sunscreen, you will be asked to provide your own.

Our next big fundraiser will be the Double feature Music Concert, featuring The Secrets & The Elliotts on July 8th. The concert will be held at King’s Edgehill Performing Arts Centre. Our fundraising committee along with Colleen O’Brien, (parent) have been working hard on promoting this event to make it successful. A special thanks to Moe’s Music for sponsoring ticket sales, Victory Credit Union Ltd for their large sponsorship and K Rock for providing the advertising sponsor. Tickets can be purchased at the centre and be sure to watch our Facebook page and listen to AVR, for contests for a chance to win free tickets. You can also purchase tickets on our website!
