Director's Report

It’s hard to believe that winter and Christmas are just around the corner. We have some exciting activities planned this month beginning with an invite by Mermaid Theatre for all the children to see their new production of Rainbow Fish, a visit from Santa, and lots of winter and Christmas activities. I am sure each classroom will be transformed into Winter Wonderlands before we know it!

As the weather continues to get wet and cold, please remember to bring appropriate clothing including hats, mitts, snow gear, rain/snow boots (for the water and mud or snow) and many changes of clothes for your children. We do go outside snow, rain or shine so we need to ensure the children are dressed appropriately to play!

And we're still looking for one or two more parents to join us on the Board; if you have a couple hours each month and would like to help us make 2018 the best year yet, please let us know! The next meeting will be on Thursday, December 14th at 6:30.

I would like to take this opportunity, on behalf of the staff and myself, to wish everyone a

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Executive Director

Winter Storm Closures

Our parent handbook indicates that in the event of a storm our centre will remain open. However, should the weather be extremely nasty, and we decide to close for the safety of families, children and staff, we will advertise the closure on AVR, post to our Facebook page and change the message on the phone. We will make every effort to do this as early as possible (as early as 6:00 am). It is suggested for you to have an alternate childcare plan in place before the nasty weather is upon us.

Things to Remember

  • Please wipe your outside boots off in the lobby to reduce the amount of salt/snow/sand that will be tracked into the building!

  • If your child has a fever, is vomiting or has diarrhea, or is just feeling miserable from a cold then this is not the place to be!

  • To call the centre if your child is absent for any reason.

  • Check the lost and found regularly, you may find that missing mitten!

  • To clean out and replace items in your child’s cubbies!

Christmas Events

The Centre we will be closed on Monday, December 25th for Christmas Day and on Tuesday, December 26th for Boxing Day.

Shh!  Santa is coming!  We are just waiting for confirmation on when his schedule enables him visit.  This year I have purchased books from our Scholastic earnings to pass out as gifts.  Every time I place an order through the book club, I receive bonus coupons towards materials, books, etc. for the classrooms.  So by you buying books for your children earns $$$ to help make purchases for the centre.  Thanks to everyone who supports this program.

The staff are excited to be hosting a Family Christmas Social for our day care families on Sunday, December 10th.  It will be here at the centre from 1:00 to 3 pm.  We will be celebrating the season with refreshments, crafts, treats and activities.  Everyone is welcome to come and help us celebrate the holidays.
